on August 31 – September 2, 2007. |
| Why Buganda Trust? |
| Buganda Trust is one of many responses from Baganda to the financial weaknesses that threaten the existence and integrity of Buganda's national identity and survival. |
| How is it different? |
Buganda Trust, Inc is the first Baganda institution of its kind.
- It is designed to benefit the Buganda nation for generations by operating on the principle that its capital base must never decline between years, hence guaranteeing continuing growth for generations.
- It will offer grants, not loans or equity participation, to initiatives that demonstrably promote the long-term cultural and socio-economic success of the Buganda nation. The beneficiaries will include Buganda institutions, businesses or individuals.
- It shall only invest in conservative financial assets and with such discipline as to conform with the requirements of continuing growth in value for generations.
- It is incorporated in the USA and will only invest its capital in international securities markets. Therefore, it shall be independent of the risks and vulnerabilities of the Ugandan economy and political environment.
|
| How does it work? |
Under the watchful eye of an international governing board of distinguished Baganda men and women, Buganda Trust shall accumulate, invest and disburse financial resources to initiatives that demonstrably promote the long-term cultural and socio-economic success of the Buganda nation.
- Buganda Trust solicits grants and other contributions from individuals and organizations.
Individuals are encouraged to commit to making a monthly contribution of at least US $10,
$20, $50 or $100 or even more on their own behalf or that of a loved one. Agency
relationships will be sought with reputable philanthropy and charitable organizations that wish
but are not able to directly support Buganda related initiatives.
- Proposals and grant requests will be periodically invited from individuals and organization for
projects, scholarship, research and other initiatives that are consistent with the goal to promote
the long-term cultural and socio-economic success of the Buganda nation.
- Grants will be offered to qualifying initiatives subject to availability of funds. The Trust shall
operate on the principle that the capital contributions you make will never be applied to grant
distributions. Only interest and investment income may be distributed. The value of grants
distributed in a calendar year must not lead to depletion of the Trust’s capital below that of the
previous year.
- Operations of Buganda Trust, Inc. shall meet the legal requirements of the State of New Jersey
and the US Federal Government. Among other things, the Trust shall retain the services of an
independent and reputable audit firm and make its books of accounts public, at least once each
